Our members are bringing new members into our organization by the hundreds. What is wrong is that we are losing a large percent of these new members, and we are left with only a small increase.

What can we do?

Involve that new member! A member that is not involved may lose interest rapidly and drop out within one year.

To earn a Proud Lion Award, you must accomplish the five tasks listed below.

  • New members are encouraged to accomplish the five tasks within six months from beginning of membership

Present members, to be eligible, must accomplish the five tasks within any 6 consecutive months from July 1 through June 30 each year.

Six Ways You Can Help

  1. Have him/her attend a board meeting with you to see just what their club is doing in their community.

  2. Visit another club with him/her to meet other Lions and get new ideas to bring back to own club.

  3. Participate in a club project with him/her. Seeing that his or her help is appreciated will make the member feel needed.

  4. Attend a Zone, Region or District Meeting with him/her so the member will learn the structure of the district.

  5. Have the new member bring a quest to your club meeting. Sit with them and make sure the guest feels welcome. By bringing a guest, the new member can show his/her friend they are actively involved in their community.

  6. As a proud sponsor, sponsor a new member

When the sponsoring Lion has participated with their newly sponsored member in achieving all five objectives of the Proud Lion Award within the first six months of the new member’s membership, Reward the new Proud Lion and Proud Sponsor.
